An Award of Excellence

On January 1, 2009, I flew over the Rose Bowl Game, hoping I could get some nice photos. I had an idea in mind of what I would like and how I would go about getting the shot I wanted, but it wouldn't be easy and I wasn't counting on it. I had no idea that this day would forever change the course of my aerial photography career, giving me recognition of my work and introducing me to people who would forever shape how I thought about aerial photography.

I initially sent this photo to Sports Illustrated, who, unbeknownst to me, submitted it to World Press Photo and Pictures of the Year, International on my behalf, where I respectively placed 2nd in the Sports Singles category and received an Award of Excellence. I am honored to have been considered and presented with an Award of Excellence out of so many other amazing photographs by such incredible photographers.
